Ahmadu Bello University

Ahmadu Bello University fondly called ABU was founded on 4th October, 1962 as a way of bridging the educational gap between the northern and the southern Nigeria.

It is located in Zaria, a border town of Kaduna State in northern Nigeria. The school has 3 main campuses: Samaru and Kongo in Zaria and School of Basics in Funtua.

The University is named after Saradauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello who was the first premier of Northern Nigeria. The University started with 4 faculties (Law, Agriculture, Engineering and Science), 15 departments and 426 students.

It occupies about 7,000 hectares making it the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa. ABU has nurtured two insitutions – Ado Bayero University in Kano and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University of Technology in Bauchi.
